Something Was Missing

This evening, I thought I’d share a recent tile I drew and photographed at different stages.

The first version, I had shaded the side tangles near the top but not the rest. Here it is:

I added a bit of graphite (pencil) behind the “leaves” and “fruit,” but no shading on the checkerboard tangle called Knightsbridge . It’s fine as is, but I felt that something was missing…

so I added shading on the Knightsbridge areas. Hmmm… that helped but still felt unfinished to me.

Finally, I added decided to add color– something I don’t do often because I am a CZT and I tend to draw more real Zentangle tiles than ZIAs (Zentangle Inspired Art). If you are unfamiliar with what I’m talking about, go to the menu at the top and click on “What Is Zentangle®?” There, you can see the difference between traditional Zentangle and ZIAs.

I will continue to share examples like this that show the difference shading and/or color can make. Remember, this is supposed to be fun. There’s no right or wrong, and we draw intuitively. How we feel… Knowing if something is lacking or if it’s finished, as well as the selection of tangles on a tile.

Keep experimenting and have FUN tangling–and keep your heart untangled 😀,

Kat ^.^

  1. Kat, I love this example. Thank you for the instruction. I think I’ll try some color with my colored pencils that I use in a coloring book. 🙂
