Postcard Art Liberated 2017!

It’s time for Kat Sloma’s wonderful Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap once again.  I’ve been participating in this swap for many years– 5? 6? I’m not sure, but from the start. I have used my photographs of nature in the past, but this year, I’ve used my Zentangle® Art.

The swap consists of sending five postcards to swap (6, if you want to give one to Kat herself) to Kat, where she and several volunteers sort and then send out five cards to each of us, plus Kat’s card for us.

Here’s the card I sent, courtesy of Sheila Delgado. She received one in the swap and the setting is so pretty I thought I’d share it.

Sheila Delgado received my postcard.

Now on to the postcards I’ve received!

These are the postcardsI got in the swap this year

I’ll list the details row by row, starting at the top, left to right.

  1. “Woody” by Scott Glass. The back says “Here’s to an American Icon. Woody Guthrie: Then. Now. Always
  2. Kat Sloma’s says “Experiment Play & Create LIBERATE!”Kat’s website
  3. Jenny Tucker sent this cool photo taken at the Women’s March in Seattle. “I was trying to position myself in the mirror, but hard when people are walking/marching by! That’s the top of my head in the mirror anyway 🙂” Jenny’s website.
  4. Pearl wrote “Quilted and beaded hand for community quilt project”
  5. “Orange Blossom Breeze Star” by Michele Matucheski at Sweet Leaf Productions Sweet Leaf blogspot. She included a wonderful quote “To practice any art no matter how well or how badly is a way to make your soul grow. So do it!” – Kurt Vonnegut
  6. Michelle B. Writes “I love to capture the beauty of the world in photographs. How do you capture beauty? I would love to know!” And added this quote “Put yourself in the way of beauty.”–Cheryl Strayed.    Knee Deep in Dandelions is Michelle’s Blog.

After the official swap is finished, we always feel sad. We look forward every year with great anticipation, then it is over. However, to make the fun last longer, many of us have what we call side swaps, where we send extra postcards to those who request them.

Here’s my first three side swaps that have come to my mailbox:

Top, l-r: Teresa Hazelbaker sent “Tree Spirit”. She listed the lyrics to James Brown’s song Get Offa That Thing which were perfect for th tree!

Lots of wonderful art liberated, and more sideswaps are on their way! Liberate Your Art 2017 Celebration!

Here is a video of the art sent in! Mine is included even though I thought I forgot to send it. It’s at 1:45

  1. Hi Kat!
I love your beautiful Art..The setting that Sheila chose is very pretty 🙂
I am looking forward to side swapping with you!
What am I doing at this moment? I just got in from doing a little patio time..I have been stalking the hummingbirds that feed off of my bottlebrush bush…I try to get good photos of them, lol, but it is hard…Hummingbirds are soooooo, fast!

    1. Oh yes they are! I haven’t got my hummingbird feeder up yet but the one I watch most is attached to my window! I’ve gotten some great pics that way. I saw your video of the hummingbird and it is so great! Did you take that with your phone??

✨Thank you so much✨ for your kind words!

  2. Hey Kat. Love your collection.
I’m working on a commission of the head of Venus from Botticellis “Birth of Venus”. It’s been tough getting the eyes right and the paint I managed to get as I’m travelling is more vibrant than the original gouache. However, it will probably be done tomorrow and I’ll post it on my blog.

  3. Hi Kat,

I always love seeing your wonderful postcards. They are so artful and fun. And, of course, the postcards your received are beautiful as well. I’ll look forward to seeing more of your work next time. Take care and I’m sure I’ll think about you over the next year.

  4. Hi Kat,
WOW! Your card looks great here! So glad you enjoyed the setting I chose for it. Matching patterns, or complimentary at least. LOL. Thanks for sharing my links, and the Society6 as well. We received 3 of the same cards this year, + Kats. Another example of LYA connections between us all 🙂
So glad you shared one of your Zentangles with us! Delightful! And glad too that your art IS in the video! Be well my friend, and we will chat soon! (Just now realized, I forgot to include the names of my cards. DUH! Hahahaha)

    1. Thanks!🍃🌺🍃 I do indeed enjoy the setting you chose. It all just matched somehow. Wow, I somehow missed that we shared three cards! I need to go back and look at your site again.
I’m glad my card made it but I sure don’t remember sending it to Kat. You must’ve told me and I acted immediately and sent it (that’s a miracle in itself!). Chat soon!

    1. I’m so glad to have met you through LYA! And glad you joined in on the fun! I look forward to visiting your blog 🤓
